Last night, the Cool Kids opened for Clipse at the Glasshouse. And boy, was it intense.
The dudes had a video screen playing a montage of STRAIGHT UP 80s/90s videos… and I mean 80s/90s videos… cheesy special effects of tie-dye whales, kids with 100% neon attire, white people rollerblading on a beach, etc.
These dudes are so dedicated to their gimmick, it’s amazing. Their clothes, their stage set-up, their lyrics… everything… I was seriously wondering if these were two rappers cryogenically frozen in 1993 and trying to continue their music career 16 years later (basically a black version of Austin Powers).
Then I realized that was ridiculous. The Cool Kids weren’t cryogenically frozen… They’re actually the stars of a real life spin-off sitcom that follows the kids who beat up Will on the Philly basketball courts in the opening credits of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Seriously though, it was an amazing show. I was tripping hard. Really felt like I was in the early 90s. If you ever want to relive your childhood (or whatever state of life you were in when Reservoir Dogs first came out), go see the Cool Kids.
