At first, loving the small indie film is the hip thing to do. Then, when that small indie film blows up, it suddenly becomes hip to shit on it and call it overrated.
The hipster mantra is always “stand out/be different.” That’s why hipsters watch indie films in the first place - to feel like they’re going against the norm. So when an indie movie gets the whole country raving, they STILL gotta be different and go against the norm, so they hate on it
I don’t give a fuck if I have millions of soccer-moms rooting for the same movie as me. Slumdog Millionaire is a goddamn good film. It swept the Globes and it better take the Oscars. And wow… young Jamal might be the cutest kid I’ve ever seen.
[NOTE: I attended a screening of SM before it’s release… so I still maintain my indie-cred by loving the hipster-hated indie-film, yet at least having seen it before anyone else. Thank you very much.]
